EXPERIENCE

United States Marine Corps

In 2000, I made the decision to enlist in the United States Marine Corps and serve my country. Upon enlisting, I spent 13 weeks in boot camp in San Diego California. After completing boot camp, I attended military occupational school. I served honorably for eight years in the Marine Corps and had the opportunity to serve abroad in several countries including a combat tour in Kabul, Afghanistan. During my time in the Marine Corps, I was meritoriously promoted. I also received several awards and commendations which include the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal.  I also served as a marksman shooting coach while in the Marine Corps and served as a recruiter for approximately three years, where I attended local high schools and colleges and was able to help recognize the potential of prospective recruits who would go on to serve our great nation in the Marine Corps. As Cass County Sheriff, I will call upon my experience with recruiting for the Marine Corps to help identify, recruit and retain the most qualified individuals to protect and serve our county.

As an active duty Marine, I was assigned the opportunity to serve as a platoon Sergeant, where I had the honor of leading the daily operations of approximately sixty Marines. During my time in the Marines I was able to hone my leadership skills by attending leadership schools to advance my career within the Marine Corps. I had the honor and privilege of serving under some of the strongest and best leaders that represented our country at the time, which gave me the opportunity to learn the qualities that strong leaders possess as well as an opportunity to put those skills to use. The skills and training I received in the Marine Corps are invaluable, and will undoubtedly be put to use as I intend to exercise a hands-on, proactive approach in the role of Sheriff for Cass County.

Police Experience

In 2009, I began my career in Law Enforcement, when I was hired as a Patrolman with the Logansport Police Department and in 2010 I attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. During the time I worked with the Logansport Police Department I had the opportunity to serve in several different roles. I served first as a Patrolman, then a School Resource Officer at Lincoln Middle School. I also served as a Field Training Officer, where I trained new officers. I also served as the Pension Board Secretary as well as working with the Meth Suppression Unit.

I began my career with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department in 2016. I was attracted to this opportunity because I lived in the county and my children attended a school within Cass County. In my time with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department I have had the unique opportunity to serve in several capacities. I have served as a Deputy and a School Resource Officer at Lewis Cass. I also served as a K9 Handler for eight years and lastly, I worked as a Detective, which is the post I am currently assigned to.
