Meet Ryan Preston

Ryan Preston & Family

My name is Ryan Preston and I have served our country honorably for over 8 years in the Marine Corps and more recently, I have served Cass County in a law enforcement capacity for 16 years. During my time in law enforcement I have had the privilege to serve in a variety of roles, including being a School Resource Officer, a Patrolman, a Field Training Officer, Pension Board Secretary, and most recently, a Narcotics Detective. I am deeply committed to being involved in the community and seek the opportunity to build on the strong foundation of our current administration.

My wife, Jennifer and I are the proud owners of The Gathering Grounds in Walton, Indiana, a coffee and ice cream shop and our family has been and continues to be active participants at Cornerstone Community Bible Church, where I volunteer as a youth leader alongside my wife. I currently work full-time as a Narcotics Detective at the Cass County Sheriff’s Department. I have been married to my wife, Jennifer for 23 years and we have four daughters.

My experience as a Marine Corps recruiter has provided me with the opportunity to be able to not only identify, but also attract top talent, a skill I find necessary and vital to ensure that we have qualified, top notch candidates for both the Cass County Sheriff’s Department as well as our jail. This will guarantee that our community receives the highest standard for public safety. My experience as a Police Officer and most recently as a Narcotics Detective, has allowed me a unique perspective into the needs of our community and I am placing a key emphasis on addressing both the mental health and drug crises. I am committed to working with mental health and drug addiction professionals in our community and surrounding areas to ensure our inmates receive the best services possible, while also prioritizing providing ongoing support to addicts, so that they are able to break free of addiction and live the lives they were meant to live.

I intend to provide a hands-on, proactive leadership approach that understands the importance of seeking and maintaining quality candidates, as well as placing an emphasis on identified needs in our community, and working to help break cycles of addiction and support the mental health needs of our inmates. I am dedicated to working tirelessly to enhance the safety and well-being of the residents of Cass County, because Cass County is more than just a place my family and I live–it’s our home and I am deeply committed to protecting and serving it.
